The King Khaled International Airport was built in 1983 and is in operation since then. The number of Passengers using this Airport increased from around 8 million in 1998 to more than 18.5 million in 2013 thus necessitating its expansion. Terminal 5 was thus conceived and is now constructed with an area of 106,500 square meters. It can serve 16 narrow-body or 8 wide-body aircraft.

It can handle 12 million passengers per year and is used for Domestic air travel purposes. It has 36 check-in counters, 30 of them for Economy and the other 6 for Business Class. 20 self-check-in counters have also been provided. The Terminal directly connects with the Metro and has a Parking area of over 3,700 stalls that links with the Riyadh Metro as well.
